About this listen

He'll teach her how to bring a man to his knees...

Dr. Ellie Swan has a plan: open her practice in tiny Bluelick, Kentucky, so she can keep an eye on her diabetic father, and make hometown golden-boy Roger Reynolds fall in love with her. But Ellie has a problem. Roger seeks a skilled, sexually adventurous partner, and bookish Ellie doesn't qualify.

Tyler Longfoot only cares about three things: shaking his bad boy image, qualifying for the loan his company needs to rehab a piece of Bluelick's history, and convincing Ellie to keep quiet about the "incident" that lands him on her doorstep at two a.m. with a bullet in his behind. The adorable Dr. Swan drives a mean bargain, though. If sex-on-a-stick Tyler will teach Ellie how to bring a man to his knees, she'll forget about the bullet.

Armed with The Wild Woman's Guide to Sex and Tyler's lessons, Ellie is confident she can become what Roger needs - if she doesn't fall for Tyler first.

Probably the most clueless heroine ever written!

No SPOILERS!

I normally appreciate Samantha's writing and that she doesn't constantly go off in long mind tangents. In this story, the heroine has 5 minute conversations in her mind while having conversations with the hero. It definitely drove me crazy as no one can be that clueless, especially a doctor!

Shopping Trip? So obvious to everyone, except the heroine.

Her tutor? Completely obvious to everyone.

The story has a lot going for it. I like the main and supporting characters plus the easy conversation. The ending is very Hallmark-like although the meat of the story is Playboy Channel material (well-written, sexy and fun).

Entertaining romance, careless performance

I enjoyed the characters in this book and the sub plot of rescuing pit bulls. I found the reader distracting when she misread sentences and placed the emphasis wrong, often coming to the end of the sentence with her tone of voice only to realize there was more--rather as if there was a line break that wasn't the sentence break. I liked the story, but would avoid the reader.

Good Story not the narrator

the story was good but disappointed with the voice. feels sleepy and boring. i think i prefer reading the ebook instead of listening this kind of narrator. it will just ruined the mood of the story. it seems no feeling, just the narrator reads every words but without feelings.

This was fun to read!

If you could sum up Private Practice in three words, what would they be?

I really enjoyed listening to this story. It was funny and good.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked when Ellie did not understand why Roger was in the adult store with his "friend"

Romance for romance’s sake

I’m not much of a straight romance kinda gal. That’s not to say I prefer same gender romance, but strictly romance doesn’t do much for me. I always know, regardless of how stupid a character acts she/he are going to get their happy ending. That being said this was surprisingly...cute. Okay, maybe no surprisingly, but as it was the first ever Samanthe Beck book I’ve read, I was overall pleased. It was a cute story with a decent plot and good main characters. I was less than enthralled by the narrator. Her voice was sugary sweet, and every male voice she did sounded the same, no matter which character it came from. Roger, Tyler, Frank, they ALL sounded the same, and the situation would normally determine tone and delivery, not with this author. Sugary sweet female voice or gravel choked male voice were the only options. Otherwise the intimate scenes were also kinda hot. Maybe it was the technical, by the book approach that the main character used, but it was pretty hot. Pretty decent overall, but not great.

Not Sure Which Is Worse

What disappointed you about Private Practice?

If I ever had a doctor as ignorant of real life as Ellie, I would turn right back around and walk out of the door of her practice, and run, not walk to the car to get away. I can't finish this book, because I can't feel any connection at all to the main character. She is the very definition of Too Stupid To Love/Live...which is doubly scary since she's a doctor. Totally unbelievable character, and no way Tyler would be able to put up with someone like that. Add to that a narrator with a nasally, rhythmically flat performance, and I couldn't finish this book. As it was, I was screaming in my car that "nobody is that f---king stupid!", and that's even with the boring narration.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I love a geeky, smart, strong woman. I get OCD, because I married it. In no way did Ellie realistically portray either of those things. I need someone that is so obsessed with being smart, and making lists, to at least know as much as the average 8th grade dropout. Habitat for Humanity is not a secret society. So. Completely. Unbelievable.

Would you be willing to try another one of Holly Fielding’s performances?

NO. Just, no. It's an erotic, contemporary romance. Not a a recitation of a boring textbook from school. The nasal part I can get over. The rhythmic cadence, no matter if she's telling us what the character is wearing, or if the main couple in the book are smack dab in the middle of the best sex that's ever been had in the universe, is not at all what I need to hear in a romance book narration.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointing, on so many levels.

The storyline was good but the narrator not so much

Enjoyed the storyline and the dynamics of the characters but again would recommend getting the book not the audible version since you reading it would give more to the characters.
