Story
Navy SEAL Ian Dunn went rogue in a big way when he turned his talents to a lawless life of jewel heists and con jobs - or so the world has been led to believe. In reality, the former Special Ops warrior is still fighting for good, leading a small band of freelance covert operatives who take care of high-stakes business in highly unofficial ways. That makes Ian the hands-down choice when the US government must breach a heavily guarded embassy and rescue a pair of children kidnapped by their own father, a sinister foreign national willing to turn his kids into casualties.

When history professor Alison Carter became a consultant to the film version of the Wild West legend she’d dedicated her career to researching, she couldn’t possibly have known that she would not only get a front-row seat to a full-blown Hollywood circus but would innocently witness something that would put her life in peril. Nor did she expect that a tall stranger in a cowboy hat would turn the movie — and her world — completely upside down.

It was just ok for me..
I enjoyed this short contemporary romance. I liked how the hero significantly evolved throughout the story. I liked how the romance developed. And the five year old nice was simply adorable!! I did feel there were holes in the story. What happened with the sister? Did the niece stay with him forever?
Narration: Lauren Fortgagng either has a very nasally voice or she was congested while she narrated this book. And that was kind of annoying. I also felt like she read too slow at times which made this book feel too long.
For me this book was ok. Would not buy it for a credit but if you find it on sale Then it's worth it.

More romance than suspense
Update 8/9/19: I read this a few years ago, but when the series showed up in Audible Escape I decided to give the audiobook a try. It's so hard to rate these older Suzanne Brockmann works. Compared to the level of writing in her Troubleshooters series as well as the production/narration quality of those audiobooks, it leaves many of these Tall Dark & Dangerous books feeling a slightly bereft. This book is also not one of my favorites of the series. Still clocks in at 3 stars.
It's a fun story, but lacking a lot of the action present in most of Brockmann's SEAL books (of either series). It's definitely fairly insta-love as the whole book takes place over just a few days.
Frisco has been recovering/rehabbing a knee injury for the last 5 years. He's just received word that despite numerous surgeries and years of PT ~ things are as good as they're going to get. Which means he will likely spend the rest of his life using a cane to walk. Also thrown at him is that his sister needs to go to rehab and he will now be the guardian of his 4 year-old niece, Tasha.
Mia is a high school teacher and Frisco's next door neighbor. She's drawn to help grumpy Frisco learn how to be the parent of a pre-schooler as well as encourage him that his life isn't over.
We also meet Thomas King, one of Mia's students who bonds with Tasha and simultaneously looks up to Frisco as a SEAL while wary of Frisco's parenting.
There is some action as Tasha's mom's ex causes havoc and a rescue takes place, but it's quite minimal in relation to the romantic aspect of the story.
I had trouble with the narrator as she didn't have a strong "male" voice. It also felt more like she was reading me the book than performing it. Joe Cat's distinct accent is also noticeably absent. I think she might be a better fit for when a book is only from the female POV. It's a decent listen as part of Audible Escape, but I'll read it in the future.

Good but way too much inner dialog!
The story was actually enjoyable and I stayed interested throughout; however, there was entirely too much internal dialog. A question is asked, then 20 seconds to 2 minutes of internal dialog.... Argh! I know lots of people love it but it wears me out. I will read the next book in the series and hopefully it will contain a bit less.

Tear Jerker - it was wonderful!
I was actually surprised how moving this story in the series was compared to the first two books. I really liked it and actually brought a tear to my eye in the end. Missed the narrator from the first two books, but this one was pretty good as well. I just like when the voices of the same characters stay the same. But this narrator did a good job.

Decent listen.
Where does Frisco's Kid rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Toward the top. It was a way better listen than some out there, but not the absolute best.
What did you like best about this story?
His bond with his neice. I LOVE how he adapted to her. It wasn't easy, but he did it and he came out better for doing it!
Which scene was your favorite?
In the cabin when Tash couldn't sleep because it was too quiet and Frisco brought Mia into her bedroom and made them both listen to the sounds of nature. I also LOVED when they were shopping for Tasha's furniture and they sat on the pink princess couch that she wanted SO badly. Which made me laugh very hard at the scene when all his team members arrive at his place later in the book after his place got trashed!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Again, probably the part in the cabin. It just reminded me of comfort and contentment.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed the book. The narrator was good. The story was good. The characters had some depth.

Great story -One of Alpha Squad's best!!!
I'd heard about Frisco in several of the Alpha Squad Seal's books, but his story is great! Take a tough SEAL who can take down any enemy, who also overcame an alcoholic father and difficult childhood and then take it all away from him leaving him feeling useless and desperate. He can barely walk, his sister's addictions have landed her in a jail or rehab situation and left him with her small daughter and a criminal that wants the money back that his sister took from him and call in the SEAL team. Add to that a beautiful neighbor that would be glad to help him, but his manly pride is pricked that he can't carry his own groceries up the stairs. Frisco finally figures out that being a man doesn't come from taking out terrorists, but from accepting what life deals you and making it work -that's what a true SEAL does. Action, love and recovery and a SEAL with a very PINK couch. Another great Brockman story!
