About this listen

Warning: This is meant for mature audiences only, 18+.

A college student, Natalie Wright. She hasn't had it easy for years, emotionally. Her one safe haven is music. Soul-breaking, body-quaking lyrics sung in such a voice the emotions are conveyed onto you. Enter Ryan "Steele" Hurst, a chart-topping lead singer in the rock band Steele's Army. The band's songs are about cheapening the meaning of love. They project the bad-boy image.

Can these two polar opposites coincide with each other on a summer tour, making it out unscathed?

This is a novella.

keep on looking elsewhere

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Had my heckles up before the first chapter even finished. Feeling the sale at $1.99 as a bad purchase irratating.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something that isn't a first person narrative. Also highly awaiting the release of Eve Langlais's "Welcome To Hell" series that releases in 7 days. Just hoping the narration is good to match the writer and book.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Felt mechanicle and a bit stiff. Narrator has possibilities but can't rule out the story as a good book to narrate for.

Do you think First Chance needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No.

Any additional comments?

Narration aside, this book was written with too much desciptive garbage that it bored me and set the tone before the first chapter was finished. The over load was so distracting, even the story contridicted it's charater. Summerizing, an example would be in how the female lead states that she can't think about the night her parents die except the story actually goes back to it and re-enacts the event. It's like stating a character is allergic to the sun but then spends over half a chapter either rembering the last time they spent outside or state a chapter later that they go for for a run daily, greating the happy commuters going to work with excitement and refreashment for the start of a new day. It's common flaw writters do when they state a character's smart with a Doctrit but everything they do is so stupid. Erg.

Anyway, I only made it as far as 3hrs and 39 minutes of a 4hr and 8 minute book before I was tempted to return it with a refund.

a decent first attempt novel.

I listened to this book on an audio so I didn't notice any big grammatical errors that others mentioned in their reviews. The story wasn't bad and had/ has potential. I wasn't aware that it ended with a cliffhanger, so I wasn't too thrilled about that. The one thing about the audio though that bothered me the most was the narrator. This story is told in a dual pov perspective and it switches back and forth. At the beginning of chapters it says whose pov it is, however the narrator never changes his voice when he is portraying Natalie. In fact the book starts out in her pov and at first, I didn't even know the character was a girl until they said the character's name.
