About this listen

Fanny Hill is an erotic novel that was first published in 1748 and has remained a best seller for over 250 years, in spite of its being banned shortly after publication and banned in the UK and USA for many years.

In 1966 the US Supreme Court ruled that it was not obscene, shortly after making the same ruling for Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H. Lawrence and Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller.

Today, it is considered, by many critics, to be an erotic masterpiece and a true literary classic.

The book is explicit in its descriptions of sex, but never vulgar. And in spite of, or perhaps because of, its explicitness, it remains one of the most popular love stories ever written.

In fact, Fanny Hill is on the list of "The 100 Books to Read Before You Die!"

The story is about a young girl who finds her true love, then loses him, and ends up in a "house of ill repute". She unabashedly describes what happens there and begins to enjoy her life, but eventually decides to leave that life and look for her long-lost love. Will she find him? Listen and find out!

This book is, obviously, for liberal-minded adults only, but for them, it will hold the same fascination as it had for previous generations.

Very good book and very good listen.

While this book is "explict" it does not use vulgar langange wthich might be off-putting to some. Very interesting story. especially for anyone interested in what life was life back then.. Narrator was not over emotional but I liked that. When I listen to a book I want it to be like reading it,where my own brain imagines what the scenes look like and how people sound. I don't like it when
narrators become too much of the story, by trying to "act it out, " as if the book were a stage play.
Oh...and Ms. Hartley had a very nice...as in not overdone...British accent. 5 stars all around. :)

Ruined by awful narration

This particular version sounds like it was narrated by Alexa's 12 year old cousin.
Dont waste your credit on this.
