About this listen

Live fast, die young - anything else is a fantasy for Six. She's endured the worst the sectors had to throw at her, but falling in with Dallas O'Kane's Sector Four gang lands her in a whole new world of danger. They're completely open about everything, including their sexuality, but she hasn't survived this long by making herself vulnerable. Especially not to men as dominant as Brendan Donnelly. Bren is a killer, trained in Eden and thrown to the sectors.

His one outlet is pain, in the cage and in the bedroom, and emotion is a luxury he can't afford - until he meets Six. Protecting her soothes him, but it isn't enough. Her hunger for touch sparks a journey of erotic discovery where anything goes: voyeurism, flogging, rough sex. He has only one rule: he won't share her.

In Bren's arms, Six is finally free to let go. But Bren's obsession with the man who made him a monster could destroy the fragile connection they've forged, and cost him the one thing that makes him feel human - her love.

Critic reviews

"The dark, dog-eat-dog world is fully realized, the colorful cast established and grounded, and the pace never lets up - making for Rocha's strongest book so far." ( RT Book Reviews)

readers

Lucy Malone is by far the BEST audiobook reader I have heard. When evaluating an Audiobook to purchase, I first look for Lucy as the reader, and I know I will not need to listen to a sample read if she is the reader. She is credible with both male and female parts and puts real emotion in her reads, unlike the many monotone readers

really good

I enjoy the voice the narrator settled on for Brendon. It was very well done and a very well written story.

Just as good as the first two!

I really loved Bren and Six's story. I read this whole series a while back but decided to come back to it and listen to the stories. I think Lucy Malone did a wonderful job narrating this book. Bren and Six are both complicated individuals with a whole lot of baggage. Oh and as always Kit Rocha does not disappoint when it comes to the sex. Talk about straight up erotic!

Best erotica ever

Storyline and in depth description of sexual acts delivers best ever erotica. Must read to appreciate the love shown too.

Finally, some story to go with the smex

Don’t get me wrong; the naughty parts are still numerous and kinky. So numerous. So kinky.
But here we finally have more back story for Bren and Six, and more plot beyond the romance/erotica, as we delve into what’s wrong with Sector Three and how Sector Four is working towards fixing things.
This is the first time I’ve said it of a series, but a little exposition and some info dumps would be nice.
How did The Flare bring about Armageddon? When? How exactly does Eden fit with the various sectors? Is there anything in the world beyond the sectors? Why are all the characters twenty somethings?
No old folks? And who talks like that during the naughty stuff?! Everyone. Apparently, everyone. 🙄
I confess the dirty talk was delicious, if a tad eye rolling.

The urban fantasy, dystopian adventure lover in me is still underfed, but I do feel like this book dolled out enough bread crumbs of a story to make a better meal in later books. Also, the Mercenary Librarians spin-off does a better job with the UF/dystopian side, although admittedly at the expense of the erotica.

The romance lover in me is overfed, with kink-orgasms in so many not-my-kink ways. So many.😜
As the summary states, the predominant kinks here are voyeurism, flogging, and rough stuff.
More importantly, it’s all still consensual. That makes it sensual, even though these aren’t my kink. I also think I liked this book better than the previous two books because this couple watches, but doesn’t share. The multiple partners thing in the other books was a bit much and I found it easier to buy the intimacy between this committed pair of damaged lovebirds.

This book also spends a fair bit of time following Ace, Cruz, and Rachel, setting up romances for the next books and forecasting a return to multiple FF action, MFM or FMF action, or MFMFMF…MF…MF… action. No joke: I will not be at all surprised if there’s a dirty dozen HEA in one of these books. But hey, it’s a testament to the author duo’s skill at writing naughty that I found this hot when it’s all so not my kink.
It’s also a testament to narrator Malone, who scorches from my ears to my … toes, gonna stick with toes. Hmmm, maybe some of this is my kink?

Beyond Pain

I don’t really have a lot to say about this book, they explain a little more about the sectors and that 4 is going to take over 3. But they have some cleaning up to do. Six is learning more about sector 4 and finding out if she really belongs there.

Bren likes pain hence the name of the book and that is fine I like that they both mutually enjoy what they like. Again no judgment, who doesn’t like that?

There were a lot of scenes but not a lot of story if that makes sense with this book.

The narration is just ok, I don’t dislike but I don’t love it either.
